The Country
of Turkey has a very long, colorful, and adventurous history!
Being the original cradle of some of the worlds major religions,
Turkey is also justifiably famous for its carpets, gold
jewelry, spices, silks, embroidery, miniature paintings, and
calligraphy, as well as many other things.
The modernization
of Turkey began in the 1920s, when, under the leadership
of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, many reforms were made. Atatürk
set into motion reforms that have allowed social, religious,
political, and cultural changes to take place, which have made
it possible for Turkey to evolve into one of the most progressive
and modern Countries in Eurasia!
Among Turkeys
many wonders, are the myriad lovely Mosques that can be seen
all over the country. Many of these Mosques have been built in
a style, which includes manifestations of a wonderful latticework
covering their windows and doors.

Turkish
Veil, with its lovely variation on Netting, Right-Angle
Weave and Chevron Stitch, resembles this wonderful latticework!
Also, under Attatürk, women were no longer required to wear
veils over their faces. Turkish Veil represents both
the old, and the new parts of Turkey. Its delicate open netting,
with floral and tassel-like embellishments illustrate the best
of both worlds.
Techniques Used:
A variation stitch called Lattice Weave, Herringbone,
Peyote Stitch and fringe techniques.
Photo Note: The photo above at top
is my friend Christina at the Beads On The Vine Retreat in 2007
modeling the Turkish Veil. The photo was taken by Scott Potter.
