Pave´ Brooch or Necklace Instruction Booklet
©2003 (Revised 2007) by Cynthia Rutledge

Pavé Brooch ©2002 by Cynthia RutledgeThis piece has always been a favorite of mine. There is something about the simplicity of the design and the beauty of the stones that is really attractive to me. I wear my Pave´ Brooch and Necklaces regularly, so when Mark and I decided not to put this design in kit form anymore, we still had a lot of customers requesting kits and instruction sheets for it.

If I may, I would like to tell you a bit about Pave´ Brooch or Necklace. The term Pave´ denotes a technique of setting semi-precious or precious stones into metal so closely that very little of the metal is exposed. In beadwork, as in metal, this technique is very beautiful. My love of ancient jewelry and the fine craftsmanship that accompanies many of these works of art has been the inspiration for many of my pieces.

A flat Peyote Stitch strip, with decreasing on the edges, is created to form the base of this design. Flat-backed stones, drops and seed beads are stitched to the surface of the Peyote Stitch base, in a pleasing design, giving the look of the Pave´ technique. A long, soft, netted fringe, ending with an assortment of stones, adds a lovely touch of elegance and movement. The fringe is hidden inside a flange, or pocket, of beadwork that is behind the piece, and the flat Peyote Stitch base is edge-stitched for a clean and professional finish. Turn the piece into a brooch by stitching on a high quality pin back, or add a bail, so that the piece can be made into a pendant.

The booklet includes a detailed Supply List to aid in gathering your supplies. I also included images of four of my samples to inspire you when it is time to begin beading. Detailed instruction accompanied by color diagrams will assist you in every process, to insure a successful and enjoyable experience. The booklet is 16 pages (plus covers), measures 5 3/8" wide by 8 1/2" tall. It comes with a clear plastic envelope to carry and protect the booklet.
